From The Superintendant (August 26, 2010)

The green tees are back out in #1,3,9,10 and 11 fairways. For those who like the course to play a little shorter this set of tees are a great option. Enjoy and I'll see you on the course!!!

From The Superintendant (August 10, 2010)
I just wanted to add a quick note that the Tennis Courts have been power washed. In the process there were a few small holes opened up in the surface of one of the courts. We have patch material ordered and on it’s way and hopefully we will have it by mid-week. Feel free to use the courts in the meantime. I would like to give a special thanks to Dick and Jan Howell for the use of their Pressure Washer.

On a golf note, Congratulations to all of the club championship flight winners. It was a beautiful weekend and from the sounds of it we had some pretty exciting finishes.

See you on the course!!!

From The Superintendent (July 29, 2010)
As July comes to an end and we are through the busiest part of the golf calendar there is still allot of summer left and plenty of opportunity to come out and enjoy the course and the club. The following is an update of some things we are working on and some information about course maintenance that you need to know.

  • #9 Tee- Growing from seed always takes time but the tee is progressing nicely and we hope to have it in play by mid to late August.
  • #1 hill- the area has filled in nicely and I am confident that the problem of balls rolling back down the hill has been solved.
  • We have done some additional work at #12 tee with some in house supplies we had in our dump. A low curb has been installed to clean up the ugly rut that had developed next to the tee over the years. Now that the water issue has been solved with the new drainage it makes the area look much nicer.
  • Tree Pruning- We are in the process of pruning all of the locust trees on the golf course as many of the limbs have begun to hang and interfere with not only Golf but cart traffic as well. We have also pruned along the entrance around the Spruce trees on either side of the drive to give them more room to grow.
  • Aerification dates- Our fall greens aerification, originally scheduled for 8/30, has been moved to Tuesday 9/14 with extra days to follow as needed. The Committee and I both felt that the August date was to close to the Harvest Tournament, and things would not be heeled completely for what has become a very well attended and popular event.

Thanks to all of you for your support. As you see Assistant Superintendent Don Gloss, or any of the crew out there and you have a minute, don’t be afraid to pass along a pat on the back. They deserve it.

From the Superintendant (June 10, 2010)
June is finally here and we are in full swing on the golf course. It has been a very busy year so far in the Grounds Department and does not look to be letting up any time soon. If you have been on the course I’m sure you have noticed some of our projects.
  • #9 Tee- We have completed the construction of the new back tee on #9 and are waiting for it to grow in. Light frequent watering to keep the seed bed moist is ongoing. The tee will add about 20 yards to the hole and should be a good challenge for those who want to play it back.
  • #1 hill- in my last update I explained the process we were using to convert the hill on #1 to rough. Everything worked pretty well except the weather. Cool nights and a few frosts a few weeks after seeding slowed the process. Since the weather has turned the area has started to fill in nicely and we are getting closer to completion.
  • Equipment delivery- the new equipment has all arrived and we have put it all to work right away. The backhoe has already completed work on the stump remains near #4 tee as well as on #3 and 6.
  • Drainage on #12 tee- the pipe we installed last fall is handling the excess water at #12 tee nicely and the path is clear within 8 hours of a heavy rain.
  • Plant beds- Jessie has been a nice addition to the crew and is doing a wonderful job with the flowers and beds around the property. If you see her let her know.
Thanks to all of you for your support. As you see Assistant Superintendent Don Gloss, or any of the crew out there and you have a minute, don’t be afraid to pass along a pat on the back. They deserve it.
